JELLY POWER

Part of a general theme of facilitating change in my work, in this project I explored the qualities of jelly, specifically the wobble and how to encourage and replicate this in movements, objects and mindsets. Jelly, which I outlined as ‘the wobbliest material’ represents the antithesis to the rigid solids, which I attributed to contributing to our fixed mindsets and teachings in our culture. To embrace a wobble means to accept that nothing is or should be fixed, permanent or static. My material studies offer an attempt to visualise alternative forms that encourage more fluid movements in both their construction and user interaction with the objects. The project aims to create a widespread wobble making us more susceptible to change. The project resulted in several celebrations of non-normative states, from jelly wobblers for furniture and objects and fictionised packaging that suggests consumption will give you the power to be like jelly.
